Homeschooling with toddlers

I don’t want to give you the impression that our homeschool days are all wonderful and perfect, but here’s a glimpse of one of the days that was working for us!

Many people wonder what to do with a little one while you homeschool. My trick? Find something they’re interested in. Farm Princess  loves to play “party” (tea party) every day. Every day! Multiple times a day! She will pull this stuff out, clean it up when I tell her to, and then pull it out again later. She LOVES playing tea party. She plays at the end of the table while we homeschool at the other end (we keep leaves in the table all the time to make it long because we have guests over often).

She plays with cupcakes because her mean mommy won’t actually let her EAT cupcakes. =) Just joking. We make them with honey and coconut flour. =)

The boys use Singapore Math workbooks and Math U See blocks. We have a black board up on the wall that I use to write things. Ideally, the boys would be on the other side of the table so that they can see the board. :)

Here’s the whole picture! I got some preschool toys (Lauri toys) and sometimes I have her sit on a blanket on the floor and play with those. She initiated this herself (and does many days), so I just went with it. I don’t want to fight her on what toys she’s going to play with. Sometimes she wants to color while they work. Sometimes she wants to play puzzles. Sometimes she wants to play tea party. Every once in a while she’ll ask to watch Boz or her princess movie (where they teach dance moves and how to courtesy and waltz, etc. :) ), and sometimes I’ll let her do that….

That’s what I do with my 3 year old during homeschool….what do you do? :)

Thank you for this confirmation. I thought some 3 year olds need to do totschool or something. My 3.5 yr old just love to play. Alot of school years ahead when she is 5?
