What kind of soap and shampoo are you using?
Don’t ask. π π I would prefer to use all natural wonderful stuff. Unfortunately, my skin and head can’t tolerate wheat protein or nut oils, and ALL of the natural kinds I’ve found have those 2 ingredients! I’m also sensitive to chemicals, so it’s crazy! Right now Paul Mitchel Shampoo works for me, but I can only shampoo my hair every other day or that starts bugging me too. I hate using chemical shampoo…I need to learn how to make my own wheat free/nut free shampoo! And I’m using Shikai shower gel. I use Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint soap for the hand soap all over my house, in a foaming pump w/1/3 soap, 2/3 water. I get a huge jug of it from Azure Standard. Sorry I don’t have any better answers yet! What do you use?
Right now the Jason products. I am trying to avoid the SLS stuff… Does Dr. Bonner’s have SLS? The real stumbling block is the “homemade” soaps that I can use and they last forever.. John goes through in about 5 days… so it like 6.00 a week on soap for him… realizing I could make my own…but I am kinda lazy that way!! It just seems so hard to find a good, long lasting soap!!
Hey I put in an email to the adoption site you posted on your fb. Kinda wondering about mentoring, as both my girls are not down with getting a sister…which is a big bummer, but I think I could mentor and maybe sneak a new sister into the house when no one is looking!!! π
Hi Christie! Dr. Bronners does not have SLS, and you can get a gallon of it at Azure. Try that for John! π
Good for you for wanting to be a mentor. That’s awesome, Christie! We should have your girls over so my boys can “preach” to them about how cool adoption is. π π π My boys all say that they want to adopt someday, they think it’s so great!
hahaha That is awesome! Brynn used to be all jazzed about adoption…wanting a brother really bad.. now she is almost 12 and has closed the family doors!!! Here is the funny… WOW, the place works quickly and has already sent me a profile and it is of an 8 year old BOY!!! YIKES!!!! I have to send her my bio, then get started with the mentoring program. He has a foster mom that wants to adopt him, but she can’t afford to lose his funding once she adopts…bummer for both of them!! Thanks for helping inspire me to get off my behind and continue my journey!! ALSO next order you put in, I should try the Dr. Bronners soap. Thank you!
To jump on the shampoo conversation..
I did the apple cider vinegar[acv] for awhile and it worked great. But I wanted to take it one step further to see if I could find a cheaper alternative. ACV is pricey here in Norway. Now I do not wash my hair at all, just rinse with water.. I know it sounds crazy.. but it it strange how your hair starts to take care of itself. Read about it here.. http://fondalashay.com/mintchilli/i-do-not-wash-my-hair-yes-you-read-that-right
Fonda, wow, that’s amazing! I’m going to share my new hair techniques soon, this idea fascinates me! Thanks for sharing! π
Just a thought, I use Baking soda for washing my hair and absolutely LOVE it!!! Rinse is Apple cider vinegar….there was a short time of adjustment but it was not bad at all and I love how clean my hair feels! I also make my own deodorant with baking soda, arrowroot powder or cornstarch and coconut oil….I also add in lavender essential oil…LOVE IT!!!
Thanks for your wonderful blog!
So how did you store all of that cold stuff? And the produce to make it last so long? I’d love to learn and do something like this too! π
I know that this was a long time ago, but if the Preserves have “pectin”, I think that is not on GAPS.
I noticed your comment about your Lemons not lasting, “Lemons for lemon rind and juice (wonβt last 3 mo)”. I like to have a glass of fresh lemon water to start my morning each day, but I only grocery shop every month or 2. So I buy my organic lemons in bulk, juice them all and freeze the lemon juice in ice cube trays. Then I transfer to a container for easier storage in the freezer, and so I can use the trays for other stuff (chicken broth, etc.). Every morning I just throw 1-2 lemon cubes in a glass of water, and drink up!
I have not tried the lemon rinds (though I should), but you can probably put those in a container and freeze them too. Then thaw them out when needed. Hope this helps! Love your Blog!!!
