you go, girl! You look totally awesome! You are the reason that I started this diet! 😀 I am on day 4 and I have lost 1 lb. so far and feel totally satisfied! No food cravings! and my kids and husband are sticking to it 100% also! They are champs! Such a fun, healthy new lease on food! Thanks for cluing us in and for your shinning example of walking it out ahead of us! 😀

Okay, so I keep asking you info. I’ve gotten it. And as I sit at my desk, doubled over in gas pain, from a terrible dinner last night. I am convinced! I am grocery shopping and starting the GAPS diet this weekend! This is horrible to be living this way and sucking down Gas-X like it’s candy!

Katie, thank you! Yes, start this diet! You will feel so much better! Whenever we “cheat” we see such a huge difference and remember how life used to be. There’s a Yahoo group for people on GAPS, I can send you the info. Then you can chat and ask questions to people and see what successes and struggles other people are having. I’ll pray for you as you get started! It’s a big change, but so totally worth it!!

I have been hoping you would post something like this because I have been SOOOOOO curious! You look amazing! I know you did not do the diet for weight reasons, but how FUN that feeling better came with this bonus!

Wow, that’s great Brenda! Good for you. We (Shane and I) are on day 8 of GAPS and so far, so good. I love the variety of foods we’re eating and losing weight too. But one question: I can’t find anything about popcorn. I’m assuming it’s a GAPS no-no, but can you confirm? Thanks!

    • brenda

Hi Tirza, I’m so glad you like GAPS so far! Popcorn is a no-no, sorry! It’s a starch & turns into sugar, so no good. Dr. Campbell McBride says for snacking during a movie, roast some pumpkin seeds & put out a bowl of raisins with them (or, I suggest, other dried fruits, since I’m not crazy about raisins!) :).

Awesome! YOu look incredible. We’ve been on the GAPS diet since Feb last year and it has saved out lives! Do you have any tips on salty snacks? My partner craves them but I can’t seem to make anything that he likes. He doesn’t like almond crackers and just wants to eat peanuts all the time, but I am sure he isn’t ready for them as it makes his nose runny and he falls asleep straight away afterwards.

Hi, thanks for the comment! You can bake cheddar cheese to make “crackers,” you can make homemade spinach artichoke dip with yogurt. Seed crackers are a good option, too. Hard boiled eggs. Carrots and celery in homemade ranch (with homemade mayo or yogurt). Nuts are good if you can tolerate them (preferably soaked, not pre-roasted and salted ones from the store), but too many nuts can be hard on some people. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi Brenda – I have fallen off the Well Fed Homestead Trail for a few weeks. Just getting caught up. I love this post! You look so great – besides the weight loss you can see in your hair and skin that you are healthier!
I am starting to gain weight as I am now about 16 weeks into this pregnancy.
I didn’t gain any the first trimester – in fact lost some – due to nauseousness.
I thought of you tonight after we made a beef roast. It was a “round” which is a tougher cut like the “rump.” Do you have any tips for making grass fed beef roasts more tender?

You look great! I lost 22 pounds in 10 month on the GAP diet, but the 13 year old boy, who is the reason we changed to GAP, he is too skinny. It is beginning to be a problem. What to do?

    • brenda

Hi, thanks for the question. One of the keys to doing GAPS successfully is making sure to have LOTS of healthy fat. I would start giving him spoonfuls of unrefined coconut oil, cubes of butter if he’ll eat them, etc. I would also give him food multiple times per day (in between meals, etc.) and lots of chicken broth (chicken feet stock is especially helpful) to ensure healthy digestion/absorption. If he’s not getting enough fat, his body might not be assimilating many of the nutrients he is eating. Also, make sure he’s on a good probiotic, like Biokult, and taking in plenty of homemade yogurt and/or kefir. He needs these things to help his body digest the foods he eats. Good luck!!

Wow!!! Truly amazing!!! I am now on Day 3 of Gaps and am thrilled to see that you didn’t really go through the Intro.(I am doing the Intro, but would like my family to eat Gaps too, I am excited to be trying new recipes that I KNOW they will love and then they will be eating Gaps without really knowing it!) Thanks for sharing this wonderful blog!!

You look great! I just ordered the book. I was interested in trying it to lose weight and for decreasing anxiety – flour and sugar are bad for anxiety. Did you notice any mental health benefits? I am a big time cook and baker so this is going to be a big change. I have incorporated a lot of Nourishing Tradition recipes into our diet easily but the cutting out is going to be the hard part. I am a sugar-holic – especially chocolate!

  • A Knipfing

I’ve been reading a lot about the GAPS diet and since I have an autoimmune problem, I think I’d like to give it a try. I’m still doing the research, but will definitely take the plunge. You’re photos are inspiring.

  • Kwaldroping

Whoa! Inspiring to say the least! We are tiny, baby stepping our way towards the GAPS way of eating (just jump in already, right? 🙂 and these photos really give me hope! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, it’s not only the weight that’s off but you’re a changed person. If I saw your “before” pic right before I met you I would expect someone who was tired, subdued, sweet, but distracted, and probably not my first pick for giving a ton of responsibility, no offense intended, just the truth. However in the after pics I see a whole different person; the first thing I notice is the smile, it’s just so much more visible and natural, like it’s permanent, and doesn’t look like it is there just because someone said, “smile!” You also look like you have a ton of energy, a clear, sharp mind and are capable of handling pressure. I would like to see before and after pics of your kids too. That would be interesting!

  • Kari

Your beautiful transformation is sooo INSPIRING! Wow! I actually thought the “after” picture was of a teenage daughter. But it is you! How wonderful!

We’ve been on the GAPS diet for a year and are just now starting the intro diet. I’m so glad I found your site! And thanks for taking the time to help everyone what is allowed on each stage! That is worth it’s weight in gold!
    Thanks so much!
