    Drinking too much water: My Story

    One time I drank too much water. Let me explain. 🙂 I was pregnant, and I was heading in to the doctor’s office for an ultrasound–the ultrasound, you know, the big one. I had been told to make sure to drink 4 8 oz glasses of water before my appointment. I mentioned in this post that I don’t naturally crave a lot of water. This task seemed next to impossible to me. But I wanted to see my baby, so I did it. My bladder was SO full. On the way to the doctor’s office, it seemed like there was construction everywhere, and roads were bumpy. It seemed to take…

    H2O: Stop drinking 8 glasses per day

    I’ve never craved a lot of water. I would much rather drink tea than water. I think I would feel bloated and pukey (is that a word?) if I drank 8+ glasses of water a day. There are some people who seem to crave water–they always have to have it. This is seen as a bad thing, because it’s a sign of diabetes. And yet, mainstream health articles seem to say “drink more water!” How much water are you drinking every day? Half of your body weight in ounces? A huge jug? Several glasses full? Have you bought into the idea that you need to drink a lot of water and you…

    Pomegranate Curry Cod {GAPS, Paleo, Real Food!}

    I wanted to create a dinner recipe that would be suitable for Valentine’s Day. This is it! The red pomegranate seeds and the pink salt make it a festive, lovely dish! The flavors are very good–who doesn’t love curry?!?! If you’re not into the idea of cutting up a pomegranate and squirting yourself in the eye (or squirting your ceiling like my friend Erin did to ours! Ahem! :)), then you can buy the pomegranate seeds in the refrigerated section at Trader Joes (and I’m sure other stores have them, too). Make sure to use pink salt! Use it on everything you serve on Valentine’s Day! Fried eggs & pink…

    What can you eat on the GAPS Intro Diet?

      photo credit: comprock I am writing this post for myself as much as for all of you. I’ve had a handwritten list that I’ve been carrying around for a long time now, and I keep thinking, what if I lose it? Well, no worries anymore, it’s right here!  🙂 So why did I compile my own list of what to eat throughout each stage of the GAPS diet? Because the lists I was finding weren’t complete. There were foods missing, and I was confused about what to add when. I spent a lot of time researching the book, as well as gapsdiet.com, and I came up with,what I believe is a well-researched, comprehensive…

    10 Reasons GAPS is better than Gluten Free

      photo credit: shufgy We were on the GAPS Diet (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) for over 2 years, and then we started coming off of GAPS too quickly last Spring. Life got stressful over the Summer, and we stuck to gluten free foods. Now, we’re Day 2 back on the GAPS Intro. Why? Because life is better when we’re on GAPS. Let me tell you why I think this! 10 Reasons GAPS is better than Gluten Free: Grocery shopping is simpler. On GAPS, you shop down the outside aisles of the grocery store, and you get very few items that are located in the middle of the store (salt, seasonings, and…

    GAPS works for Farm Boy 1, says his doctor! :)

    I’ve shared about our struggles with Farm Boy 1 quite a bit on this blog. I know that GAPS works for him. But GAPS (and the idea of Leaky Gut in children) is not accepted among most medical doctors. If blood work doesn’t show Celiac, a child is deemed “Failure to Thrive,” and that’s it. There’s no hope. Maybe a feeding tube with soy and corn and sugar based formula, but if that doesn’t work for your kid, there are no answers. That’s where we are. The feeding tube helped our son grow a bit. But not like it should have, considering the fact that he was on the highest…

    Confessions & Time for GAPS Intro!

    I wrote this post in August 2013, but I believe the information is still relevant and REAL. We did an awful job coming off of GAPS. Please do it differently for your body!    This is Farm Princess & me at Red Robin on her 5th Birthday, last week. Did you know they don’t have the bird anymore? Or balloons? How disappointing, on a girl’s 5th Birthday! 😉   I heart GAPS, but I’m human and I fall short of perfection. Keep that in mind as you read this post. 😉 Since April, when we went to Disneyland, we have come off of GAPS way too quickly & have slacked…
