Real Food Pumpkin Spice Steamer for Two

Don’t forget that we’re giving away some shredded coconut! It’s easy to enter, and there are hardly any entrees so far! Also, if you’re trying to figure out what to make for Christmas, don’t worry, just check out A Whole Food Holiday for all of my yummy holiday recipes! Now, for a simple but delicious treat! The Farmer and I enjoy having some kind of “treat” after the kids go to bed. Last night I came up with this easy, amazing drink! It’s the time of year when we crave all things pumpkin, spicy and warm. The coffee shop that starts with an “S” can be such a temptation…

    Honey Peppermint Hot Chocolate

First, don’t forget about our give away!!! My family has a tradition: every time we decorate the tree, we have hot chocolate. And since we decorated the tree on Sunday, we had hot chocolate! This is the most you will get to see of foster son, because I am not allowed to show his face on the internet. You can see that he completely unbuttoned his shirt, put it on inside out, and buttoned it up again. That kid has talent! 🙂 You can see The Farmer’s face though. And Farm Princess 1! This is the ONE good photo I got with her eyes open. She’s got a blinking problem!…

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! I pray that you will be able to feast on foods that don’t make you ill. That you’ll stick to your convictions, and that if you don’t, that you won’t be riddled with guilt. 😉  I pray that your children will be grateful to eat whatever you serve to them, and that they will not be tempted to eat foods that will not help their body heal. I pray that you won’t have any “flops” today, and that every dish that you prepare will come together beautifully. I pray that the people around you will be understanding of your food choices.…

Getting ready for the Holidays, GAPS style!

It is November 1st. There are 23 days until Thanksgiving and 54 days until Christmas. Quick, don’t panic, but: Do you know what to cook for the Holidays this year?   You may have cooked Holiday dinners before. You know the staples: mashed potatoes, candied yams, homemade rolls, turkey with gravy. Oops. You’re on the GAPS Diet, though. Now what do you make?? This is what I was facing last year. We had started GAPS the January before. I was pretty confident cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner with GAPS friendly recipes. But what about those holiday staples? I started practicing in October. I wrote down all of my recipes, and…

Planning for Saturday…which is really planning for Sunday?

So, this might seem a bit confusing, but you all are brilliant-so I know you’ll come to understand this sleep-deprived mama! =) In a real food kitchen you NEED a day of rest. Not just “maybe”, but you REALLY need it. Not only do I believe that this is the way the Lord created us, but that we will see our best healing on GAPS when we have a good day of rest. This doesn’t happen by itself. Is anyone else out there as bad at planning ahead as I am? I sure hope I’m not the only one, because meal planning,(or just calendar planning!) can be a challenge for…

    Just a quick introduction…

{My family at the *chilly!* beach this summer} Hey Everyone! In case you didn’t get to see the video we recently shared, I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself…   Brenda is a dear friend of mine and recently asked me to join her in the adventure of sharing our lives here at The Well Fed Homestead. I am really excited to give you all a peek into what life looks like for my family as we strive to live healthier each day. I have to admit I am a bit nervous too…goodness-I feel at times that I have so much to learn, but I am hoping…

    Me vs. We

A friend recently explained to me the "me vs. we" mentality when it comes to buying our food. I have to admit, I’ve had a lot of the "me" mentality going on. Here’s the difference:   ME I want what I want, when I want it I want to get everything at the cheapest price I can  I don’t want to be inconvenienced  (this sums up the American way, doesn’t it?)   WE I want to support my local farmers and keep them in business I am willing to pay a higher price, because I know my local farmers aren’t relying on government subsidies to make an honest living I…
