GAPS & Paleo Cabbage and Meatball Soup Recipe
I love digging through purses or bags I haven’t used in a long time and finding money, or a tube of lipstick, or best yet; one of my favorite lotions. Looking through old SD cards that weren’t cleared and contain photos of FOOD is kind of like that for me, too. 🙂 I am not a professional photographer, people. I’m watching YouTube videos to learn more, but I have a long ways to go. I have a cool camera. I have some lighting, and a reflector. I know to shoot in daylight, near a window. That’s about the extent of my photography skills. At the farm, photography seemed easier for…

GAPS Recipes (Roundup)
How many of you are thinking about “going GAPS” since the holidays are over? You want to finish up the last few sugar cookies and the last half of the pie you made, then start, right? I get it. 🙂 Well, I want to make it easy for you to find GAPS Intro recipes. You can search the internet, and it’s confusing–what exactly can you eat on the GAPS Intro Diet? Well, I’ll post some guidelines and then a linkup for the recipes here! I do not recommend doing the GAPS Diet only based on information from blogs like mine. While I love to share information with you, and so do many…

Grain-Free, Nut-Free 5 Layer Bars
I’m *trying* to eat mostly grain-free again–with a few cheats here and there. I’ve been chatting about it over at my GAPS Facebook group. Come check it out and join the conversation. So, I’m trying to eat grain-free, all the while looking through Pinterest for Christmas recipe ideas. Not a good mix! 🙂 🙂 I saw someone share 5 layer bars (I think these were called 7 layer bars once upon a time, but I’m not sure what was in the 7 layers? I can’t picture any more ingredients….anyone? Pickles? Ice cream? Ok maybe not…). So, I see all of these great looking recipes that make me want to get…

Grain-Free Green Bean Casserole
If you’re eating grain-free or gluten-free, you might be wondering how you are going to make all of the traditional holiday foods that you used to have. Right now you may be craving pumpkin pie, stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes, and, of course; green bean casserole. I made up this version when we were on the GAPS Diet. It is a yummy substitute for the typical gluten-filled holiday side dish. You can find this recipe in my e-book, A Whole Food Holiday. It contains GAPS legal, grain-free, gluten-free versions of all of those holiday foods you’re craving! Recipe: Grain-Free Green Bean Casserole Summary: You can make your own GAPS legal or…

Ruby’s “Good, Homemade Fruit Dessert”
Ruby is almost 7, and enjoys doing all things “Mommy.” She loves taking care of baby dolls, pretending our dog is a baby, putting away groceries, organizing, and of course, helping out in the kitchen! She made up this “recipe” for a dessert and wanted to make it. I taught her how to properly use a knife to cut the fruit, and I promised her that I would post her recipe here for all of you. 🙂 You can see Ruby cutting up strawberries here (and you can see the blue color that my hubby has been painting our kitchen, and the lovely green Frog Tape!): The nice thing about…

Paleo BBQ Beef & Cabbage (with options for non-Paleo family members)
My husband and I started eating Paleo yesterday, but our kids are eating gluten free. For breakfast we had an egg casserole, for lunch we had lettuce wraps, and for dinner we had BBQ Beef & Cabbage. This is a simple 1 pot dinner for Paleo peeps. For the non-Paleo folks, cook a pot of rice, gluten free pasta, or bake some potatoes in the oven. PrintPaleo BBQ Beef & Cabbage (with options for non-Paleo family members) Ingredients1 small onion, finely chopped 4 cloves garlic, minced 4 TB olive oil 2 lbs grass fed ground beef 28 oz can diced tomatoes 1/2 c honey 1/4 c apple cider vinegar 1/2…

Arugula Avocado Salad
I LOVE arugula! It has a bit of a bite to it, so sometimes kids (and even some adults) aren’t fond of it. Arugula is widely used in Italy as a green by itself, a mixed green within a salad, a cooked green, or even a pizza topping! 🙂 Eating greens like arugula regularly can help your body fight off carcinogens. (source) Arugula is a great source of Vitamins A, C and K, and provides high levels of Iron and Copper. Try this salad and see if you enjoy arugula! 🙂 Arugula Avocado Salad INGREDIENTS 5 oz arugula, washed 3 carrots, shredded 1 ripe avocado, sliced 1/2 cup extra virgin…

GAPS Intro Stage 1 Roasted Carrots
When we are on the GAPS Intro Diet, it feels like I am always cooking. If you’ve done the intro diet, I am sure you can relate. You chop up veggies, chop up meat, make broth, make soup, your family eats it, and they’re hungry again! This food is so easily digestible that your gut isn’t blocked up & trying to process it for hours between meals! You don’t want GAPS to become a low carb diet or a starvation diet, either! That is not the goal. The goal is to heal your body with the *right* foods. Not less food, not less of a particular nutrient–but more of the…

GAPS Intro Stage 1 Chicken, Carrot & Cauliflower Soup
My family did the GAPS Intro diet again for 1 week–that was about all we could handle, this time around. 😉 The GAPS Intro Diet is AMAZING, folks! It’s healing–and if you’ve been through it and are going through it again; it’s torture. 🙂 But really, I recommend doing a GAPS Intro “cleanse” every now and then, just to get your body back on track. If you’ve had the flu or some kind of illness, this diet will be especially helpful in re-establishing proper gastrointestinal bacteria. This is a very easy soup. You can really use any cut of chicken or any type of meat. If your meat is already…
