Ruby’s “Good, Homemade Fruit Dessert”

Ruby is almost 7, and enjoys doing all things “Mommy.” She loves taking care of baby dolls, pretending our dog is a baby, putting away groceries, organizing, and of course, helping out in the kitchen! She made up this “recipe” for a dessert and wanted to make it. I taught her how to properly use a knife to cut the fruit, and I promised her that I would post her recipe here for all of you. 🙂

You can see Ruby cutting up strawberries here (and you can see the blue color that my hubby has been painting our kitchen, and the lovely green Frog Tape!):

The nice thing about this “dessert” is that it is free of all of the most common allergens. It’s dairy free, gluten free, grain free, egg free, soy free, nut free. It works for people who are on the GAPS Diet, SCD, Paleo, Primal, Gluten Free, probably even for people on Weight Watchers. I was proud of Ruby for creating a recipe that could work for so many different diets.

Ok, you want to know her secret recipe?

Ruby’s Good, Homemade Fruit Dessert

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 peaches
  • 1/2 pint raspberries (eat 1/2 of the pint on the way home from the farmer’s market)
  • 1 pint strawberries
  • cinnamon (optional)

METHOD

  1. Carefully peel the peaches and cut into slices or tiny little chunks, or some of each–whatever you like. Spread them around a 9×13 pan.
  2. Wash the raspberries and spread around the pan, over the peaches.
  3. Wash the strawberries and very carefully cut the tops off. Place these in the pan, randomly, over the top of the other fruit.
  4. Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon on top if you like cinnamon.
  5. Use your (clean) hands to mix it all up, squishing some raspberries while you’re at it.
  6. Serve in small fruit bowls. This made enough for 6 small bowls of fruit dessert.

Enjoy!!
