I always post about when we "cheat" on the diet, but well, I just want to share because this diet is so amazing and we feel good so much of the time–so the times we don’t feel good really stand out.
Tonight I have arthritis pain. I ripped up cardboard to throw in the fire, and my hands got stuck in the position they were in. They hurt very badly tonight. I feel like an old lady, just achey all over. Yuck. Not fun.
I was wondering what did this. We had leftover goose stew with white beans in it tonight. I was thinking it was the beans? I looked up beans and arthritis & saw lots of sites claiming that beans can cure arthritis. Hmmm…Not exactly the results I’m seeing…
Then I remembered, yesterday we made an online order for a local store called New Seasons. As a thank you gift for being first time online customers, they gave us a carton of organic strawberry ice cream. We’ve been on the diet a year. We didn’t eat ANY sugar at Christmas. The last time I had any sugar was 1 hot chocolate on a family b-day in October (migraine after that), and before that, a couple of chocolates on our anniversary in July. I’m like the Scripture about the dog that goes back to its own vomit ;), because I go right back to what causes me trouble….We figured 1 scoop per person wouldn’t hurt us. So–last night, we each ate one scoop of ice cream.
Now tonight–pain that I used to have all the time. Aches that many people think are "normal" are back. What would most doctors suggest? Advil–that’s what I’ve been told before. Stronger meds when Advil doesn’t cut it. Just "deal with it".
My solution is much simpler. Much more natural. No sugar. I did a google search for "sugar and arthritis" and it’s all over. There’s definitely a connection between sugar consumption and arthritis flair ups–not just in my own personal experience. Have arthritis? Or achey hands/body, whatever you call it? Try keeping sugar out of your diet…..It works for me!
Anybody want the rest of that organic strawberry ice cream? 🙂
that ice cream is tempting! But I have definatly splurged this season and need to detox from goodies!!!
Tim actually has a problem with his hands and has to sleep with a brace on one hand because it will wake him up-it’s that bad.
About a month or two ago I noticed that it seemed to flare up really badly after we would go to the in-laws and he would drink pop at their house.
I told him and he said he will have to try to see if that did it…not sure if he remembered, but I would believe that sugar is the bad guy!!!
hope you had a wonderful christmas!!!
(and good for you for not cheating-that’s super impressive during the holidays!!! ps…when you said “sugar” are you allowed to have honey?)
I was shopping at New Seasons a week ago and they were giving out free samples of vanilla ice cream (organic) with hot fudge on top. I just kept telling myself that it would make my cholesterol go even higher and by the grace of God was able to walk on bye. I love NS for the most part but you really need to know what is good and what isn’t. BTW we received “Nourishing Traditions” as a Christmas gift. We were vegan up until 2 days ago! Now starting to follow NT to hopefully bring my thyroid and pancreas back into health. What a change from vegan with alot of soy to NT eating plan. I am going to be “eating” alot of crow. Wonder if there is a receipe for crow?
Hi Brenda
I’m experiencing an arthritis flare up while on GAPS. I’m not sure if it was due to weather or imperfect eating for the last few days. I’m wondering if, on GAPS, you experience arthritis flare ups due to humidity alone? Or can you always trace it to food?
Thanks, hope to hear from you.
dairy is what did it more so than the sugar … dairy is inflamitory
